Additional information

Gibraltar's Crown issues have long occupied an odd corner of numismatics — legally valid currency for a territory whose circulating coinage is effectively the pound sterling, produced primarily for the collector market with little pretense otherwise. This piece commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of Elton John's 1973 album, recorded at the Château d'Hérouville outside Paris in roughly two weeks.

The .375 fineness — 9 carat — keeps the gold content modest, a common approach for Gibraltar's commemorative program where accessible price points matter more than bullion weight.
