Opmerkingen

The Northwest Branch of the Chinese Soviet Republic National Bank operated out of the Shaanxi-Gansu border region, one of several semi-autonomous soviet areas attempting to maintain functional local economies under near-constant Nationalist military pressure. These notes circulated within a tightly controlled zone where the issuing authority could enforce acceptance at bayonet point if necessary — convertibility into anything external was theoretical at best.

Two reference numbers appearing in catalogs for what is essentially the same type reflects genuine uncertainty about whether surviving examples represent distinct printings or simply variation in handstamped branch designations. The paper itself was often locally sourced, which accounts for the significant stock inconsistencies collectors encounter across the series.
