| Opmerkingen |
The Szechuan-Shensi Soviet was established in late 1932 after Red Army forces under Xu Xiangqian broke into the Sichuan-Shaanxi border region, and the bank followed almost immediately — issuing currency was a political act as much as an economic one, asserting territorial legitimacy against Nationalist authority. Cloth composition was not an aesthetic choice; paper was scarce and unreliable in the remote mountain base areas, so locally available fabric was pressed into service.
The "Fantasy" designation in the catalog reflects genuine uncertainty about whether this specific variant actually circulated or was produced as a facsimile or later reconstruction. The grey cloth examples differ from the better-documented issues, and provenance for individual specimens is almost never traceable.
