The Latvian cents coinage — locally spelled santīmi — was introduced in 1922, suppressed entirely during the Soviet occupation, and revived in 1991 alongside the restored republic. These copper-composition minor coins circulated until Latvia's adoption of the euro in 2014, after which all lats and santīmi denominations were demonetized.
