Comments

Lithuania's 1922 low-denomination notes were printed domestically by Lietuvos Bankas itself — unusual for a newly independent state that had only established its central bank the previous year and lacked the industrial printing infrastructure of the established Western note printers. The result is a note of noticeably modest production quality compared to contemporaries issued by states that contracted De La Rue or the American Bank Note Company.

The Litas series of which this forms part replaced the Ostmark and its successor currencies left over from German military occupation, giving the 2 Centu effectively the purchasing power of a rounding unit from the moment of issue.
