| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of Liberty set within a large crescent, her curly hair adorned with a Phrygian-style helmet bearing a prominent six-pointed star. Three small stars are arranged along the lower border — one at base center flanked by one at each side. The encircling legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA runs along the upper periphery in bold raised Latin lettering, separated from the inner device by a raised rim. The overall design reflects the classical allegorical style employed in mid-nineteenth century American pattern coinage. |
