The Laxey Wheel — formally the Lady Isabella Wheel — was built in 1854 to pump water from the Great Loch Vane lead and zinc mines, and at 72.5 feet in diameter remains the largest working water wheel in the world. The Isle of Man has issued numerous collector pieces tying the wheel to Manx identity, and the 2003 Pobjoy Mint specimen issues were struck to the same exacting standard applied across their Crown dependency contracts of that period.
