Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the fourth portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara and drop earrings with a draped neckline. The truncation of the bust bears the designer's initials IRB. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs across the upper left field and COOK ISLANDS arcs across the upper right field, with the date 2002 appearing in the lower field. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-like proof field.

Reverse description Central large numeral 2 in the classic Maundy style, flanked by the divided date 20 and 02 in the upper field. A Tudor crown surmounts the numeral from above. The entire central device is encircled by a wreath of olive branches tied at the base, evoking the traditional design of British Maundy coinage. The design is executed in high relief with a deeply mirrored proof finish throughout the field.
