| 裏面の説明 | Central design features a large stylised numeral '2' dominating the field, behind which a frill-necked lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii) is depicted in dynamic relief, its frill displayed and clawed feet splayed, rendered in Stuart Devlin's characteristic naturalistic yet modernist style. The word 'CENTS' appears in the upper portion of the field, completing the denomination, while Devlin's initials 'SD' are incuse at the lower centre of the design. The overall composition balances the bold numeral with the intricate zoological detail of this iconic Australian reptile. |

Australia's decimal conversion in 1966 replaced the pre-decimal penny and halfpenny with this coin, ending over a century of pounds, shillings, and pence. The two-cent denomination proved awkward from the start — too small to be useful, too large to ignore — and the Royal Australian Mint eventually ceased production in 1984, with the coin demonetised alongside the one-cent piece in 1992 when rounding to five cents became law.
