| 正面描述 | The Maltese coat of arms is depicted centrally in the field, consisting of a vertically striped shield bearing a representation of the George Cross at upper left, supported on either side by a wreath of olive and palm branches, and surmounted by a mural crown. The country name MALTA arcs along the upper legend in bold Latin lettering, while the date of issue appears in the lower exergual area. A continuous beaded border frames the entire design. |

Malta's cent-denomination coinage from this period was struck under the authority of the Central Bank of Malta following the country's full monetary independence from British sterling, which had formally concluded with the introduction of the Maltese lira system in 1972. These pieces circulated with minimal interruption until Malta's adoption of the euro on 1 January 2008, at which point the entire lira coinage series was demonetized simultaneously — one of the cleaner currency transitions among early eurozone entrants, with a fixed conversion rate of 0.4293 Maltese liri to one euro.
