Obverse lettering EMPIRE FRANÇAIS B * DEUX CENTIMES *
Reverse description The reverse presents an identical composition to the obverse, featuring the imperial Napoleonic eagle displayed with wings outstretched and head turned to the right, perched upon a fasces tied with a ribbon. The eagle is rendered with precisely engraved feather detail and occupies the central field within an inner beaded border. The surrounding legend reads EMPIRE FRANÇAIS along the upper arc and DEUX CENTIMES along the lower arc, punctuated by five-pointed stars at either side. The mint mark B is positioned in the exergue below the central device, and the design is bounded by an outer beaded border. This reverse trial piece presents essentially the same eagle and legend design as the obverse, consistent with its character as a reverse pattern essay.
