Obverse description Laureate bust of Louis-Philippe I facing left, rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style by engraver Jean-Jacques Barre, whose name appears incuse below the truncation. The king's hair is elaborately dressed with a laurel wreath. The circular legend reads LOUIS PHILIPPE I to the left and ROI DES FRANÇAIS to the right, separated by the portrait within a beaded inner border. The date 1847 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the bust.
