Haiti's 1846 coinage was produced under President Philippe Guerrier's short-lived successor governments — a period of acute political instability following the assassination of Jean-Jacques Dessalines' would-be heirs and the chronic factional violence that defined mid-century Haitian governance. The republic struggled to maintain a coherent monetary system, and copper small denominations were struck intermittently rather than systematically, often in insufficient quantities to meet circulation demand.
KM#26 is known with striking inconsistencies across the type, a consequence of irregular die preparation rather than any single mint's negligence — Haiti relied on foreign contractors for much of its coinage during this period.
