| Obverse description | Central field features a radiant sun with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from the center. The national legend encircles the design along the periphery, with the date appearing at the bottom of the legend. Uruguay's 1924 coinage reform was driven by a push to replace the old copper centésimo series with a more durable base metal. These essai pieces — struck in Paris, almost certainly at the Monnaie de Paris — were submitted as pattern proposals and never approved for circulation. The nickel composition was ultimately rejected in favor of other options, leaving the essai run with extremely limited survivors.
