Beschrijving voorzijde Printed in red letterpress on plain paper, the obverse is divided by a vertical rule into two panels: the left panel bears the municipal coat of arms of Estremoz within a quartered shield incorporating a crescent moon, a radiant sun, a Portuguese escutcheon, castles, a tree, and marble blocks at the base, all flanked by symmetrical laurel branches and surmounted by a ribbon scroll with the issuer's name. The right panel presents the bold numeral '2' and abbreviation 'CENT.' in large letterpress type alongside an Ionic column vignette, the whole contained within a plain rectangular border.

Opmerkingen

Portuguese municipal notes like this one emerged from the severe coin shortage that plagued the country during and after the First World War. With small-denomination metal currency hoarded or simply unavailable, hundreds of câmaras municipais and private businesses printed their own cédulas — emergency fractional notes — to keep local commerce functioning. Estremoz, a marble-quarrying town in the Alto Alentejo, was among them.

The series was never redeemable beyond the issuing municipality, and redemption enforcement was inconsistent at best. Many cédulas quietly became worthless when issuing bodies dissolved or simply stopped honoring them.
