| Reverse description | The numeral '2' and the denomination 'CENTAVOS' are displayed prominently within a central rope circle, framing the value in a clean, legible manner. The patriotic motto 'LA UNION ES LA FUERZA' (Unity is Strength) is inscribed in the annular band between the inner rope circle and the outer toothed border. The date '1987' appears in the lower exergual area beneath the rope circle. The overall reverse design is minimal and functional, consistent with the small module of this low-denomination circulation coin. |

Bolivia's centavo denominations of the mid-1980s were a direct consequence of one of the worst hyperinflationary episodes in recorded history. By 1985, annual inflation had exceeded 20,000 percent, rendering the old peso virtually worthless and forcing the government to introduce the boliviano at a conversion rate of one million to one. These tiny stainless steel pieces were struck into an economy that had just been rebuilt from nothing — yet within a few years even the smallest denominations had lost practical utility again.
