| Beschrijving keerzijde | A left-facing laureate and draped bust of Liberty, modelled by engraver Eugène-André Oudiné, dominates the central field, wearing a Phrygian cap inscribed with the word LIBERTAD. The designer's name OUDINÉ appears incuse on the truncation of the bust. The denomination DOS CENTAVOS is inscribed in the lower field beneath the portrait, flanked by decorative stars, all enclosed within a beaded inner border. The overall composition reflects the Neo-Classical style characteristic of Oudiné's medallic work for Latin American coinage of the period. |

Argentina's bronze centavo series of the 1880s was issued under significant fiscal strain, as the country's aggressive foreign borrowing and land speculation were building toward the Baring Crisis of 1890 — a sovereign debt collapse that nearly took Baring Brothers of London down with it. The government's monetary house was badly disordered throughout much of this coin's production window.
KM#33 was struck at the Casa de Moneda de Buenos Aires. The series ran unusually long for a nation whose currency arrangements kept shifting beneath it.
