Obverse description Right-facing bust of Pope Benedict XVI in papal vestments and zucchetto, engraved by Guido Veroi whose initial 'G' appears in the field to the right of the portrait. The date 2006 is inscribed in the lower left field beneath the bust. A circular border legend in multiple languages reads PRUEBA, TRIAL, ESSAI, and PROBE, separated by five-pointed stars, with CITTA' DEL VATICANO inscribed along the lower rim.

Reverse description The large numeral '2' dominates the right side of the field against a background of diagonal lines. To the left, the European Union flag on a staff is depicted in relief, showing twelve stars arranged in a circle on the banner. In the lower central field, the word SPECIMEN appears within an oval cartouche. The overall design follows the standard European euro cent reverse layout adapted as a fantasy specimen piece, engraved by Guido Veroi.
