| Obverse description | Armored bust of Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor) facing right, rendered in low relief in the hammered style typical of Neapolitan coinage of the period. A fleur-de-lis mintmark or ornamental device appears in the lower left field. The circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, interrupted by pellet stops, and reads CAROLVS IIIII RO IM, identifying the ruler as Charles V, Roman Emperor. The flan is irregular and the overall style is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Southern Italian regal coinage. |
