| Obverse description | Central square hole (穿) surrounded by a plain inner rim and a broad flat field. Four Chinese characters in regular script (楷书) are arranged in cruciform fashion reading clockwise from the top: 熙 (Xī), 寧 (Níng), 通 (Tōng), 寶 (Bǎo), together forming the reign-era legend 熙寧通寶. The characters are boldly cast in relief with clean, upright strokes characteristic of Northern Song imperial calligraphy. A raised outer rim borders the entire obverse. |

| Reverse description | Plain reverse field with a central square hole (穿) framed by a raised inner rim. A single crescent-shaped mark is cast in relief above the square hole in the upper field, serving as a mint or furnace identifier. The remainder of the reverse is featureless apart from the broad, slightly convex field and a raised outer rim. The casting surface shows the characteristic granular texture of Northern Song iron cash production. |
