Additional information

The Tianqi reign (1621–1627) was administratively chaotic — the emperor himself showed little interest in governance, leaving effective power to the eunuch Wei Zhongxian, whose faction's grip on the bureaucracy extended into mint operations. Provincial mints were notorious during this period for adulteration of alloys and underweight casting, and Zhejiang was no exception. The "Zhe" mint mark distinguishes this piece from the far more common Board of Revenue issues, making provincial attribution the primary point of collector interest here.
