| Obverse description | Four Chinese seal-script characters arranged in cruciform around a central square perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 天 (Tian), 通 (Tong) to the right, 寶 (Bao) at the bottom, and 啓 (Qi) to the left, conforming to the standard Ming dynasty cash coin layout. The characters are rendered in raised relief against a flat field, with bold, well-defined strokes characteristic of late Ming casting. A plain raised rim encircles the design. The square central hole is neatly formed with straight edges and slightly raised collar. |

| Reverse description | Plain flat field surrounding a central square perforation, with a single small incuse circle (pellet depression) positioned to the right of the square hole, serving as a mint or workshop mark. A plain raised rim borders the coin. The reverse is otherwise devoid of inscription or additional decorative elements, typical of Ming dynasty cash coins bearing only a control mark. |
