Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin of standard round flan with a central square hole, surrounded by a raised square rim (inner rim) and an outer raised border. The four-character reign legend 紹興元寶 (Shaoxing Yuanbao) is arranged in regular script (kaishu) reading top-bottom-right-left around the central aperture, with 紹 at the top, 元 at the bottom, 興 to the right, and 寶 to the left. The characters are boldly rendered in well-defined relief against a flat field. The coin displays a patina of brown and green verdigris consistent with centuries of burial.
