To the left of the central hole, the mint identifier 漢 (Han, denoting the Hanyang Mint) is cast in regular script, and above the hole the numeral 二 (Er, meaning 'two', indicating year 2 of the Qingyuan era, i.e. 1196) appears. The surface exhibits heavy iron oxidation and encrustation consistent with prolonged burial, with the reverse showing significant corrosion typical of Southern Song iron cash. |
