Reverse description Central square perforation with a raised square rim, the field largely plain save for a single Chinese ideogram 元 (Yuan, meaning 'First Year') cast in relief above the central hole in Regular script. The reverse surface is relatively flat and unadorned, with a raised outer border, and displays the coarse granular casting texture characteristic of Southern Song Dynasty bronze cash coinage.
