Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim, with four Chinese ideograms in Regular script (Kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion around the central hole: 開 (Kai) above, 通 (Tong) to the right, 寶 (Bao) below, and 禧 (Xi) to the left, reading clockwise. The characters are boldly cast in relief with well-defined strokes, set within a plain inner field. A raised outer rim frames the design, and the surface exhibits the typical granular texture of Song Dynasty cast bronze coinage.
