| Beschrijving voorzijde | Cast iron cash coin of standard Southern Song dynasty form, featuring a central square perforation surrounded by a plain raised square rim. The four-character reign legend 嘉泰通寶 (Jiatai Tongbao) is disposed in regular script (kaishu) reading top-bottom-right-left around the central aperture, with each character occupying one of the cardinal positions within the inner field. The characters are boldly cast in raised relief against a flat field, and the coin is bounded by a raised outer rim. The surface displays characteristic iron patination with ochre and grey tones consistent with age and burial. |
