| Obverse description | Central square perforation surrounded by a raised inner rim, with four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 大中通寶 (Da Zhong Tong Bao). The characters are boldly cast in relief within the fields adjacent to the central hole, each occupying one of the four cardinal positions. The coin is bordered by a plain raised outer rim. The surface exhibits characteristic green and brown patination consistent with aged bronze. |
