Obverse description Central square perforation surrounded by a raised inner rim, with four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) arranged in cruciform fashion reading top-to-bottom and right-to-left: 大中通寶 (Da Zhong Tong Bao). The characters are boldly cast in relief within the fields adjacent to the central hole, each occupying one of the four cardinal positions. The coin is bordered by a plain raised outer rim. The surface exhibits characteristic green and brown patination consistent with aged bronze.

Reverse description Central square perforation with a plain raised inner rim and smooth surrounding fields. A single Chinese character in regular script (kaishu), 濟 (Ji), is cast in relief above the central square hole, identifying the Jinan mint in Shandong province. The remaining three fields are blank. The surface is covered with a heavy green and brown patina typical of excavated bronze cash coinage of this period.
