The Chunyou reign period (1241–1252) was dominated by the mounting Mongol threat under Ögedei and later Güyük Khan, with Southern Song forces stretched across a shrinking defensive perimeter. Cash coinage from this period was issued in enormous volume to fund military expenditure, and the 2-cash denomination in particular was produced at multiple provincial furnaces simultaneously, resulting in considerable variation in bronze alloy quality across surviving examples.
Schjoth 1011 places this type among the more frequently encountered Chunyou issues, though provincial strikes remain harder to attribute with precision.
