| Obverse description | The obverse presents the four-character reign title legend 崇禎通寶 (Chongzhen Tongbao) cast in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional Chinese numismatic convention: read top to bottom, then right to left around the central square perforation. The characters are rendered in bold, well-defined relief typical of late Ming dynasty cast coinage, each occupying one of the four cardinal positions relative to the square hole. A raised rim borders the outer edge of the coin, framing the field. The overall casting quality reflects the busy monetary production of the Chongzhen reign period. |
