Obverse description Papal tiara surmounting two crossed keys in saltire, the emblematic symbols of the Holy See, occupy the central field. A decorative knotted cord with foliate scrollwork appears in the lower portion of the field. The circular Latin legend reads around the periphery, identifying the pontiff by name, title, and regnal year. The coin exhibits a milled edge and the overall design is rendered in a restrained baroque style characteristic of late eighteenth-century papal coinage.
