Obverse description Central papal arms displaying the coat of arms of Pope Benedict XIV within an ornate baroque cartouche, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter. The shield features three horizontal bands on a field, rendered in a bold relief typical of mid-eighteenth-century Roman coinage. The circular legend reads BENED XIV PON M A VIII, identifying the pope and his regnal year. A continuous inner border of fine beading frames the design against a smooth field.
