Italian Somaliland's coinage was struck in extremely limited quantities, and the 1909 issues were produced almost entirely as proofs for official presentation and archival purposes rather than circulation. The KM#Pr2 designation confirms this piece as a pattern or proof striking, meaning it was never intended to reach commerce in the territory at all. The Regia Zecca in Rome handled production, and output for the entire Somali colonial series from this period was negligible — some denominations saw fewer than a few dozen examples struck.
