| Reverse description | The denomination is displayed prominently in the centre of the field, with the numeral '2' above and the inscription 'BANI' below, followed by the date '1867' at the base. The central motif is framed by a wreath composed of oak branches on the right and laurel branches on the left, tied at the bottom. The mint name 'HEATON' appears in small letters along the lower exergue on the Heaton-struck variety. The design is contained within a beaded border consistent with the obverse. |

Romania's first decimal coinage, issued in 1867, was a direct consequence of the new Romanian United Principalities establishing monetary independence under Prince Carol I, who had taken the throne just the year before. The coins were struck at Heaton's Birmingham mint and the Bordeaux mint, with the two facilities distinguished by their respective mint marks — H and (wt) — making source attribution straightforward on surviving examples.
The timing mattered: Romania would not join the Latin Monetary Union, but the 1867 coinage was deliberately structured around its decimal framework.
