Issued to mark the centenary of Chulalongkorn University's founding institution, Chulalongkorn University being established in 1917 but tracing its origins to the Royal Pages' School founded by Rama V in 1882. The commemorative program under Rama IX was extensive — Thailand produced dozens of circulating commemoratives throughout the 1980s, and this issue entered general circulation rather than being reserved for collectors.
