The 2 Baht denomination was quietly phased out of Thai circulation not long after this issue, making 1992 effectively one of the final years of regular production. Thailand's rapid economic expansion during the late 1980s and early 1990s — the so-called "Tiger economy" boom — eroded the denomination's purchasing utility faster than monetary authorities could respond. Coins of this type were still technically legal tender but rarely seen in daily transactions within a few years of striking.
