2 Baht - Rama IX

The copper-aluminium-nickel alloy used for this series was chosen partly for its resistance to the corrosion endemic in Thailand's humid climate — earlier brass and cupro-nickel issues showed accelerated surface degradation in circulation. This type spans the final decade of Bhumibol Adulyadej's reign, the world's longest-serving head of state at the time of his death in October 2016, after which production continued briefly into 2017 using existing authorizations before the transition coinage under Rama X was introduced.
