The Atlantic Forest note is one of several denominations issued by the Aves Dollar project, a Brazilian environmental initiative that created a parallel symbolic currency tied to biodiversity conservation rather than any sovereign monetary system. These notes are not legal tender anywhere — they circulate within a community economy framework promoted by organizations working to protect the Mata Atlântica, one of the most fragmented tropical biomes on Earth, reduced to roughly 12% of its original extent.
