Ahmad Shah Qajar was the last ruler of the Qajar dynasty, a teenager when placed on the throne and never fully in control of a country increasingly dominated by Russian and British interference. By 1919, the Anglo-Persian Agreement that year attempted to effectively make Iran a British protectorate — a deal so unpopular it was never ratified by the Iranian Majles. Gold coinage of this reign is scarce in any grade; Ahmad spent much of his later rule abroad, and the dynasty was deposed by Reza Khan in 1925.
