The upper register displays three to four circular pellets arranged informally, while the lower register contains a central lozenge-shaped boss flanked by additional pellets. The design is entirely symbolic and non-figural, consistent with the primitive hammered coinage tradition of the Baroda state during the reign of Ganpat Rao. |

Ganpat Rao ruled Baroda as regent during the minority of Khande Rao, and his coinage reflects the ambiguous authority of that position — struck in his own name rather than the future Gaekwad's. The British Resident at Baroda maintained close oversight of the state throughout this period, following the forced abdication of Sayaji Rao II in 1847 under Company pressure. That political interference is precisely why a regent's coinage exists at all.
