These fractional notes were produced for internal canteen and camp-store use within Prisoner of War camps administered by British India during the Second World War. The Bangalore issues are among the better-documented of the Indian PoW camp scrip series, as Bangalore hosted a substantial internment population including Italian and German prisoners captured in the North African and East African campaigns. Scrip of this type was deliberately non-negotiable outside the wire — a control measure preventing currency accumulation that might fund escape attempts.
The 2 Annas denomination sits at the lower end of the fractional series, suggesting regular small-transaction use rather than bulk store purchases.
