Angola's mid-century provincial notes were printed in London under Portuguese colonial authority — Lisbon held tight control over currency design and supply for its African territories well into the independence era. The 2½ Angolare denomination is an oddity of the escudo-angolar system, a fractional value that reflects the pegged exchange structure rather than any practical circulating need.
Thomas De La Rue's work on this series is technically clean, as expected, but the denomination itself had a short effective life — demand for small-denomination provincial paper dropped sharply as coin supply improved through the early 1950s.
