Obverse description The national coat of arms of Afghanistan, adopted in 2002, is depicted centrally, featuring a stylized mosque with a mihrab and prayer rug within, flanked by two Afghan flags. The mosque is framed by sheaves of wheat that curve upward on either side, surmounted by a rising sun at the apex. The date of Afghan independence, 1298 in the Solar Hijri calendar (١٢٩٨ هـ ش), appears within the emblem. A ribbon at the base of the device bears the name of the country in Pashto script. The legend افغانستان appears in the field.

Reverse description The large Eastern Arabic numeral ۲ (2) dominates the central field, serving as the principal denomination device. The legend د افغانستان بانک (Da Afghanistan Bank) curves along the upper periphery in Pashto script. Below the numeral, the denomination دوی افغانۍ (Two Afghanis) is inscribed in two words across the lower field. The Solar Hijri date ١٣٨٣ (1383, corresponding to 2004) appears at the bottom of the field above the rim. The design is simple and bold, with all elements rendered in relief against a flat field.
