Symmetrical ornamental starburst devices flank the central vignette on either side, whilst the denomination in full — 'DOEA RIBOE LIMA RATOES ROEPIAH' — extends across the lower register. The issuing authority 'MEMB. MOEDA' and the date 'JANUARI 1948' are inscribed at the foot, with additional administrative references including series and number fields. |

Membang Moeda — literally "raising gold" — was an emergency regional authority operating in Sumatra during the Indonesian National Revolution. This 2,500 Rupiah note belongs to a series produced locally under extraordinary conditions, as the Dutch blockade had severed the Republic's ability to import professionally printed currency. The notes were printed in Sumatra itself, with limited equipment and inconsistent paper stock, which accounts for the significant variation collectors encounter across surviving examples.
The denomination is unusually high for the period, reflecting the severe inflation gripping Republican-held territories by 1948.
