| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a large central vignette of the denomination "2$500" rendered in bold intaglio numerals within an ornate oval cartouche, surrounded by an elaborate scrollwork and floral border executed in fine engraving. The overall design is restrained and monochromatic, relying on the intricacy of the engraved oval frame to provide visual interest. The background carries faint horizontal ruling typical of 19th-century Portuguese provincial banknote production. |

| Opmerkingen |
The Banco do Minho was one of Portugal's provincial issuing banks, authorized under the 1867 banking legislation that briefly allowed regional institutions outside Lisbon and Porto to circulate their own notes. By 1887, that window was already closing — the Banco de Portugal was consolidating its monopoly, and most provincial banks had lost or would soon lose their emission privileges. Notes from Braga-based institutions of this period circulated in a geographically tight area and were rarely seen beyond the Minho region.
Pick 261 is uncommon in any condition. The provincial banks destroyed unsold stock when privileges lapsed, and surviving examples from Banco do Minho are underrepresented even in specialist Portuguese collections.
