Descrizione del dritto	Central field features the colonial coat of arms of São Tomé and Príncipe, depicting a divided shield with the Portuguese royal arms and maritime symbols, superimposed upon a meridian globe rendered in low relief. A mural crown of five towers surmounts the shield. The circular legend COLONIA DE S. TOMÉ E PRINCIPE runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 2$50 appears in the lower field in bold numerals flanked by dots.

Descrizione del rovescio	Central device consists of the Portuguese royal arms — a quartered shield bearing quinas and castles — superimposed on an armillary sphere, the whole supported by a stylized frame of four elongated lance or sword motifs extending diagonally from the central device. The circular legend REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA arcs along the upper periphery. The date of issue appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by two raised dots.
