Imadaddin Nasimi was a 14th-century Azerbaijani poet and Hurufiyya mystic whose verse pushed the boundaries of orthodox Islamic thought so far that he was executed in Aleppo around 1417 — allegedly skinned alive on the orders of the Mamluk governor.
