Turkey's football club commemorative coin program has issued pieces for the major Istanbul sides, with Galatasaray's 2024 entry timed to coincide with the club's back-to-back Süper Lig championship run. The 2.5 Lira denomination itself is a curiosity — Turkey redenominated in 2005, dropping six zeros from the old lira, and fractional values in the new series have functioned almost exclusively as collector vehicles rather than circulating currency.
