Issued to mark the centenary of Anadolu Agency, Turkey's state-run news wire founded in April 1920 — just months before the Republic itself was formally proclaimed. The agency was established in Ankara by order of Mustafa Kemal specifically to counter Allied-controlled press narratives during the Turkish War of Independence, giving it an unusual dual role as both a journalistic institution and a wartime propaganda instrument from its very first dispatch.
