The text, set in varying letter sizes for emphasis, commemorates Anna Sophia, Princess of Denmark and Electoral widow of Saxony, recording her birth at Flensburg on 1 September 1641 and her death at Lichtenburg on 1 July 1717. The dedication is issued in the name of Frederick Augustus, King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, to his most beloved mother. The legend concludes with the phrase MONUMENTUM PERENNE and the abbreviation F.F., indicating this coin was struck as a permanent memorial. The entire composition is executed in the formal memorial tablet style characteristic of early eighteenth-century Saxon commemorative coinage. |
